Please note: The recent government legislation on Data Protection has changed and therefore we are currently reviewing the governors policy notice. This will be available to view shortly.
In all schools, day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher but the governing body is responsible for overseeing all aspects of school life and has 3 statutory responsibilities:
Our school is part of the Kent Catholic Schools Partnership (KCSP), a multi academy trust of Catholic schools in Kent, whose aim is to protect and promote Catholic education. The Trust has overarching responsibility for all schools within KCSP and has responsibility for some aspects of governance but each school within the Trust has a local governing body (LGB) which has specific responsibilities laid out in two documents – the KCSP Scheme of Delegation (this document is available on the KCSP page of this website) and the Local Governing Body Terms of Reference which you can find in this Governance section of the website:
Who we are
All governors are volunteers and are elected or appointed from among all groups with an interest in the school. We are a diverse group of individuals and bring different skills and experience to the Governing Body but share a keen interest in the education of the children at Holy Family and an enthusiasm to help achieve the school’s Vision. The table attached in this Governance section of the website tells you who we are now (and who was on the LGB last year) and what our specific roles or responsibilities are:
How we work
There are different ways LGBs can organise their work and we have chosen to work in the following way:
The full LGB (all governors) meets every term to receive and discuss reports and ask questions of the Headteacher, senior staff and fellow governors. The full LGB approves and monitors progress against the School Development Plan (a key document outlining plans and actions for school improvement), agrees the school budget and school policies and carries out other statutory duties. Minutes of these meetings, minus any confidential discussions, are public documents so please ask at the school office if you would like to read a copy.
A small group of governors joins the Senior Leadership Team to form a Strategy Group, which also meets every term to discuss strategic matters and to focus in depth on school data and progress made in each priority area of the School Development Plan. Strategy Group reports back to each Full Governing Body meeting when all governors may ask questions about progress and plans.
Each governor has a specific area of monitoring responsibility and makes regular visits to the school to meet staff and children to check progress and discuss plans on that particular area of school life (e.g. budget monitoring or standards in Literacy) or to check the school is carrying out its statutory responsibilities (e.g. for safeguarding and for Health and Safety).
Governors form committees when needed to consider matters such as Admissions, Pay or Complaints (please see the Complaints policy in the policies section of this website to find out when and how governors become involved) and attend various meetings at school, e.g. with Trust or Diocesan school improvement advisers.
Governors also attend parents’ evenings to gain feedback from parents and give parents the opportunity to ask any questions, and we also attend events and celebrations at the school.

We are always keen to hear from parents, carers and others interested in the progress of the school or perhaps interested in joining the Governing Body - we welcome representation from all sections of the community. If you would like to contact the Governors for any reason, or would like more information on how we manage Local Governing Body business, please leave a message with the school office on 01622 756778 or write to us at the school (address your envelope to the “Clerk to the Governing Body”) or send a message to the following e mail address email@example.com and we will reply to you as quickly as possible.
